Sub-junior soccer consists of mixed teams of boys and girls ranging in age from U7's up to and including U10's. In season 2008, we had 20 sub-junior teams. Games are played on a Saturday morning at Holloway Road, Sandringham (Mel 77 B11).
Our U9 and U10 sub-juniors play in a competition organized by Football Federation Victoria (FFV). Rules are set by the FFV and can be found on the FFV website or under the FFV Rooball Rules link under Info for Members on our home page. The fixture for the U9 and U10 competition including kick-off times, location of games, and opposing teams can be found be clicking on Fixtures/Results on our home page.
FFV under the direction and leadership of Football Federation Australia has introduced a new program for U7 amd U8 players to be implemented nationwide in season 2008. "Small Sided Games" (SSG’s) are a modified version of the game designed to aid the development of younger players.
The SSG format is designed to allow players to have maximum touches of the ball in a "game" situation. The games are played on a smaller playing field and with a smaller number of players per game. There is no positional play so players are expected to be both attackers and defenders and goal scorers! There is no goalie. No scores are kept and there are no ladders.
The club will run SSG's for U7's and U'8s on Saturday mornings. These games will consist of two 20 minute halves in a 5 v 5 format. An hour long skill session will be conducted during the week at our training ground at Spring St. The club will be hiring a qualified skills coach to lead the mid-week training sessions to enable maximum player skill development. Gala Days will be organised w/other local clubs to allow for some inter-club games.

Girls are welcome to play on any of our sub-junior teams if they wish. However, girls U8 to U10 can also chose to play on an all-girl U10 team. Please visit our Junior Girls page under Our Teams/Programs for more details.
Traditionally, sub-junior soccer does not have League Ladders, as the emphasis is on having fun and developing fundamental soccer skills within a team environment. Games are generally refereed by parents but our club provides referees that have been trained under our "budding referee" program (Junior players U11-U14) for many of home games.
