Sub-junior soccer consists of mixed teams of boys and girls ranging in age from U7's up to and including U10's. Games are played on a Saturday morning at Holloway Road, Sandringham (Mel. 77 B11).
FFV under the direction and leadership of Football Federation Australia has introduced a new playing format for younger players called "Small-Sided Football". This is a modified version of the game designed to aid the skills development of younger players. The games are played on a smaller playing field and with a smaller number of players per "team". There is no positional play so players are expected to be both attackers and defenders and goal scorers. The smaller sized fields with fewer numbers of players per team encourages more touches on the ball and opportunities for more goals to be scored.
The Small Sided Football concept was introduced nationwide for U7 and U8 players in 2008. In 2009, U9 and U10 players will be introduced to the new format.
Small Sided Football games for U7's through U10's are on Saturday mornings on a home and away basis in a club versus club format. U7 and U8 games consist of two 20 minute halves with five players per side, no goalie and with parents serving as "game leaders". Small Sided Football for U9 and U10 players consists of two 25 minute halves with 7 per side, a goalkeeper, and "an instructing referee". These games are generally refereed by parents but our club provides referees that have been trained under our "budding referee" program (Junior players U11-U14) for many of the home games.
All players will be assigned to a team and an hour long skill training session will be conducted during the week at our training ground at Spring Street.

Girls are welcome to play on any of our sub-junior teams if they wish. However, girls U8 to U10 can also chose to play on an all-girl U10 team. Please visit our Junior Girls page under Our Teams/Programs for more details.
No league ladders or scores are recorded for small sided football games as the emphasis is on having fun and developing fundamental soccer skills within a team environment. Our Directors of Coaching will oversee this program to ensure that our all players are provided with the best possible coaching to allow for maximum skills development.
